Punjab CM Warned Over Comments on Sikh Traditions
Warning Issued to Punjab Chief Minister
Following alleged remarks regarding Sikh traditions and principles, Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann appeared before the Akal Takht Secretariat. After the meeting, acting Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurgaj stated on Thursday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader has been cautioned against using such language in the future.
Gurgaj mentioned that Mann's explanation has been recorded and will be discussed in a meeting with the five 'Singh Sahibaan' (Sikh religious leaders). He also noted that Mann acknowledged that some of his comments were inappropriate.
The Jathedar added that the Akal Takht, the highest religious authority for Sikhs, will conduct an independent forensic examination of the Chief Minister's viral video. Gurgaj had summoned Mann on January 5 for allegedly making comments about 'Guru Ki Golak' and for being involved in 'objectionable activities' related to images of Sikh Gurus and the controversial figure Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
