Punjab CM Blames BJP for Recent Explosions Near BSF Installations
Explosions in Punjab Raise Security Concerns
On Wednesday, Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann accused the BJP of orchestrating two recent explosions near Border Security Force (BSF) facilities in the state, suggesting these incidents are part of a larger conspiracy ahead of elections. His remarks followed two sequential blasts in Jalandhar and Amritsar, one of which occurred close to the BSF headquarters. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, but both Punjab police and central agencies have launched thorough investigations and heightened security across the region. Mann claimed that such incidents tend to occur wherever the BJP aims to campaign, urging the party to prevent such acts, asserting that the explosions were part of preparations targeting Punjab.
Just hours after the blast in Jalandhar, another explosion was reported late Tuesday night near the Khalsa military cantonment area in Amritsar. Police confirmed that there were no casualties from this incident. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhail Mir Qasim stated that they received information around 11 PM about a loud noise on a street in Khalsa, prompting an immediate response from their team. Initial investigations indicated that an individual threw an object towards a wall, resulting in the explosion. Forensic teams and bomb disposal units were dispatched to the scene, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya S. Warrior also arrived to oversee the investigation. A team of military officials was also present at the site. This second explosion occurred just hours after the first blast outside the BSF Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar around 8 PM.
