On Monday, Bhagwant Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab, expressed his discontent with the Congress party. He accused them of being embroiled in internal conflicts as the 2027 assembly elections approach, neglecting crucial state issues. Speaking to a news outlet, Mann stated that Congress appears anxious, with their infighting showing no signs of resolution. He noted that they are not addressing any matters related to Punjab, merely insisting, 'Mr. Baghel, please go back.' Mann confidently predicted that the Aam Aadmi Party would return to power with a significant majority in 2027.

Channi Faces Crowd Demands

During a public gathering in Bathinda, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi encountered chants from supporters urging for his nomination as the party's candidate for Chief Minister. The event featured Bhupesh Baghel, the in-charge of Punjab Congress and former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, along with Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding. As Raja Wadding began addressing the crowd, chants erupted, prompting him to invite a supporter to the stage to call Channi. The supporters repeatedly insisted that the Congress leadership should designate Channi as the face of the party for the upcoming 2027 Punjab assembly elections. Amid the commotion, some individuals were seen lifting chairs.

Congress Leadership Struggles

This uproar occurred at a time when the Punjab Congress was visibly struggling with leadership disputes regarding strategies and direction for the upcoming assembly elections. Raja Wadding attempted to calm the crowd while defending party unity, but Channi's supporters remained adamant about their demand for him to lead instead of the current state leadership. Additionally, during the monsoon session, Congress legislators, led by opposition leader Pratap Singh Bajwa, protested outside the Punjab Assembly. They accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of repeated exam paper leaks and called for the resignation of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
