Public Outrage Grows Over Police Inaction in Dhubri Rape Case
Rising Anger Over Alleged Rape Incident
Dhubri, December 3: There is increasing public outrage regarding the police's lack of action following the reported rape of a minor in Bilasipara, Dhubri. Community members and local organizations have accused law enforcement of negligence and delays in addressing the case.
The alleged incident took place on the evening of November 27. The victim, an eighth-grade student, was reportedly enticed by Moinal Haque, a resident of Ward No. 7, to a nearby paddy field, where he was joined by three other men who assaulted her.
Her family later found her in a state of distress in the field. The victim's father recounted, “My daughter was discovered with her hands and feet bound. Some locals helped her get free. The assailants had threatened her to remain silent about what happened.”
Following the incident, the family promptly lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Bilasipara Police Station. A case has been filed under Sections 376(3), 109, and 120B of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with applicable sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
Despite the case being registered under strict laws, no arrests have been made five days later, leading to widespread condemnation from the community.
The delay has provoked strong reactions from local groups, including the Bilasipara branches of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, who have criticized the police investigation and threatened to protest if swift action is not taken.
A member of the Bajrang Dal stated, “No arrests have been made yet. We demand that the police apprehend the culprits immediately. If they are not arrested within the next 24 hours, we will be forced to take to the streets.”
