PT Usha Addresses Cricketers' Accommodation Concerns Ahead of Asian Games 2026

No Issues Reported on Cricketers' Lodging: PT Usha

PT Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), has confirmed that she has not received any complaints regarding the accommodation of cricketers in Japan in preparation for the upcoming Asian Games 2026, which will take place from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi Prefecture and Nagoya. Despite some media reports suggesting that accommodation issues were raised during a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Usha stated that athletes have not voiced any concerns. She emphasized that cricketers are integral members of Team India, saying, 'I didn't get any complaints from there. They are all athletes, not just cricketers… all are Team India.'

Commitment to Resolving Issues

Usha assured that the IOA is committed to addressing any potential issues, with the Chef de Mission, Sahdev Yadav, also involved in the preparations. 'From our side, we will do our best, and there is a Chef de Mission also, and hope that the problem will be solved soon,' she remarked.

No Pressure on Athletes

When discussing the expectations for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games, Usha expressed that the IOA aims to avoid putting undue pressure on the athletes. She is confident in their abilities and noted that the government, the Sports Ministry, and the IOA have provided ample support and resources. 'I don't want to give any pressure to our players. I think they have all gone with confidence. Hope that they will do their best because the Indian government and the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and IOA are in one line; whatever they wanted, we have already provided and hope that these are all the things they will get confidence, no?'

Honoring Jaspal Rana

PT Usha also took a moment to honor Jaspal Rana, recognizing his contributions to Indian sports both as an athlete and a coach. 'In one word, I can't finish. Jaspal Rana's glory to Indian sport… as an athlete also he has made India proud, and as a coach as well,' she stated. Rana, a celebrated shooter and coach, passed away at the age of 49 in June this year.
