PSI India Recognized for Excellence in Community Health Services

New Delhi. Population Services International India (PSI India) has been actively collaborating with the government to provide quality healthcare services at the community level. On Tuesday, the organization was awarded the CSR Times Award during a special ceremony held in New Delhi. PSI India received a Gold Award for its 'Matrichhaya' program, funded by the State Bank of India Foundation, in the Rural and Infrastructure Development category. Additionally, the organization was honored with a Silver Award for the 'Health for All' program, which focuses on integrated primary healthcare delivery, funded by Niva Bupa Health Insurance.

According to Mukesh Sharma, Executive Director of PSI India, the 'Matrichhaya' initiative aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates and has been uniquely implemented in Uttar Pradesh. In the first phase, one Community Health Center (CHC) each in Bahraich, Balrampur, and Hardoi districts was selected with the assistance of the health department. The facilities for childbirth and delivery rooms were modernized and strengthened to meet standards. This included ensuring proper arrangements for delivery beds, newborn care areas, nursing stations, and handwashing facilities. As a result, mothers and newborns now benefit from a healthier and improved environment. Receiving the CSR Times Gold Award will undoubtedly motivate the team and the organization to enhance the quality of services further.

In Gurugram, Haryana, PSI India, in collaboration with the health department and Niva Bupa Health Insurance, operates four medical mobile units equipped with doctors, health workers, and modern equipment to provide quality healthcare services to people in remote rural areas. These mobile units not only conduct examinations for common ailments but also offer essential health services. They provide consultations and referrals when necessary. Under the 'Health for All' program, adolescents receive guidance on the physical, mental, and social changes during this stage, as well as advice on preventing anemia. The organization was awarded the CSR Times Silver Award for this initiative.
