A significant road collapse near Kainchi Mod in Dharampur has led to protests and a political clash, spearheaded by BJP leader Rajat Thakur, who confronted Public Works Department (PWD) officials regarding alleged negligence.

The demonstration took place outside the PWD Division Office in Dharampur, where BJP supporters and local residents chanted slogans demanding urgent repairs to the damaged road. Rajat Thakur, a member of the state BJP executive and son of former minister Mahender Singh Thakur, led the charge.

The situation arose when a section of the Sarkaghat–Dharampur main road collapsed during excavation for a crate wall being built next to a private residence near Kainchi Mod. The excavation reportedly compromised the retaining structure, resulting in the road's failure. Consequently, heavy vehicle traffic has been completely halted, with only light vehicles able to navigate, causing considerable disruption.

Tensions heightened when Rajat Thakur, along with local residents, entered the PWD office and had a heated discussion with Executive Engineer (XEN) Anshuman Soni. Thakur questioned the lack of action, asking why there had been no response despite the road being compromised for two days and whether any legal measures had been taken against those accountable.

Officials indicated that a complaint has been submitted to the police and an alternative route has been established to alleviate traffic issues. However, Thakur expressed his dissatisfaction with the response, criticizing the department for what he termed administrative negligence.

In his address to the crowd, Thakur claimed that the state of roads in the Dharampur area has been consistently worsening and that the relevant department has failed to act promptly. He warned that if the road is not repaired soon, the BJP, along with local residents, would escalate their protests, potentially including road blockades.

Local residents echoed their frustrations, noting that the disruption has significantly impacted their daily lives. School children, patients, and regular commuters are experiencing difficulties due to the limited access.

Meanwhile, PWD officials have stated that restoration efforts are underway to resolve the situation. However, with the opposition increasing pressure, this incident has raised serious concerns regarding accountability and infrastructure management in the area.
