Protests Erupt in Delhi Demanding Resignation of Education Minister
Mass Gathering at Jantar Mantar
On Saturday, hundreds of supporters from the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP), primarily consisting of school and college students, gathered at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. This demonstration was a response to the recent leak of the NEET-UG question paper and other irregularities in examinations, leading to calls for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. During the rally, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived in Delhi that morning, sharply criticized the central government for focusing on suppressing their social media activities instead of addressing their demands.
Criticism of Government Actions
Dipke expressed, "Friends, this is a long battle. It has been a month since we initiated our demand for Pradhan's resignation on social media, yet these officials are so shameless that instead of taking action, they are busy hacking our accounts and deleting our posts. You may erase our posts, but you cannot erase us from this platform." Reflecting on his arrival from the U.S., he mentioned feeling as if he was living the last moments of his freedom, stating he was ready to sacrifice his freedom for this cause.
Youth Resilience Against Political Manipulation
The CJP leader claimed that many individuals have compromised their stance out of fear of imprisonment, aligning themselves with the government. Amidst loud applause from the crowd, he asserted that the youth of this country has not been bought. Criticizing communal politics, Dipke questioned, "For the past 10-12 years, these people have ensnared us in Hindu-Muslim politics... Who has benefited from this? Has anyone found employment through this communal narrative?"
Demonstrators Show Solidarity
Many protesters donned cockroach masks and carried flowers. School students participated alongside their parents, chanting slogans demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. After landing in Delhi, Dipke shared a message on his Facebook account expressing eagerness to meet his supporters and urged them to lead the movement with "love and peace."
