On Wednesday, significant protests broke out at Shoolini University located in Solan district, as students rallied in response to the tragic death of a fellow student. This incident led to a day-long uproar on campus, with students and the victim's family making serious accusations against the university administration, escalating the situation.

The deceased, identified as 21-year-old Nitin, was the son of Kalyan Chauhan from Rohru in Shimla district. He was discovered hanging in his rented room in Madhuban Colony on March 28 and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Authorities found a mobile phone, a diary, and a rope at the scene, with no visible injuries on the body apart from a ligature mark around the neck.

A suicide note located in the diary indicated that personal issues led him to take this drastic action. Initial investigations did not reveal any external coercion or conspiracy. However, the narrative shifted dramatically as students claimed that Nitin experienced significant mental strain due to receiving a lower salary than what was promised during his placement, along with allegations of workplace exploitation. They also accused the university of not delivering on its promise of 100% job placements.

As the protests escalated, law enforcement initiated a case against the university administration for alleged abetment of suicide and has begun a comprehensive investigation. Evidence from the scene is being forwarded to SFSL Junga, with officials confirming that all aspects of the case are being meticulously examined. Legal action under Section 194 of BNSS has commenced, and university officials are currently being questioned.

In response, the university management stated that Pro-Chancellor Vishal Anand announced the formation of an internal committee to investigate the incident, assuring that appropriate measures will be taken based on the committee's findings.

This incident has reignited serious concerns regarding placement practices and accountability within private universities.
