Student Protests Against NEET-UG Cancellation

In response to the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam due to allegations of a paper leak, members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) staged a protest against the central government on Tuesday. During the demonstration, students were seen holding placards and chanting slogans, with one sign reading, 'The doctor's degree is for sale.' Footage shared by a news agency showed police warning the protesters that action would be taken if they did not disperse. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had previously announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 exam, which was scheduled for May 3, stating that new exam dates would be announced separately.

Investigation and Future Plans

The NTA further stated that the allegations surrounding the exam would be thoroughly investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In a statement, the NTA emphasized that this decision was made to maintain transparency and uphold trust in the national examination system. The cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 exam, originally set for May 3, 2026, was made with the approval of the Indian government, based on information received from central agencies and findings shared by law enforcement. The NTA will announce the new exam dates and the schedule for reissued admit cards in the coming days. The agency also pledged full cooperation with the CBI, providing all necessary materials, records, and assistance for the investigation.

Reason for NEET UG 2026 Cancellation

According to the National Testing Agency, the decision to cancel the exam was made after reviewing information received from law enforcement agencies, which indicated potential irregularities in the examination process. The NTA stated in its official announcement that it was not feasible to proceed with the exam after considering all evidence. This step was deemed essential to maintain transparency and credibility within the national examination system.

CBI Investigation into 'Leaked Question Paper'

The Indian government has assigned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into this matter. The agency will look into how the alleged 'leaked question paper' was circulated prior to the exam and whether any organized misconduct occurred. The NTA has committed to fully cooperating with the investigation by sharing all necessary records, data, and materials.
