Protest March Planned Against Ethanol Blended Petrol Policy in Delhi

Delhi Transport Organizations Announce Protest

New Delhi, July 27 - Various organizations linked to the transport sector in Delhi have declared a protest march to Parliament on August 4, demanding the withdrawal of the ethanol blended petrol policy. This call to action was made by the 'Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators Association' along with other groups.

Sanjay Samrat, the president of the association, stated, “We are planning to march to Parliament on August 4 to demand the repeal of the ethanol blended petrol policy. Our aim is to awaken the MPs who have remained silent on this issue, as the ethanol blend is causing problems for vehicles across the country.”

He emphasized, “We do not wish to politicize this issue, nor do we have any affiliation with the 'E-20 Public Party' or the Cockroach Public Party (Cozpa) or any other political entity.” He was referring to the ongoing online movement against E-20 fuel, which consists of a mixture of 20% ethanol and 80% petrol.

Harish Sabharwal, the national president of the 'All India Motor Transport Congress', expressed his opposition to the government's decision to make E-20 fuel the only option for consumers. He remarked, “We have stated that ethanol blended petrol should not be forced upon passengers. People should have choices, but currently, no alternatives are being provided. We support the protest march to Parliament.”

As of now, the association has not called for any strikes.

Rajendra Kapoor, president of the 'All India Motor and Goods Transport Association', commented, “This is a significant issue. It is damaging vehicles. We hope the government will make E-20 blended petrol optional for passengers.”

The announcement of this protest comes just days after the launch of the online movement named 'E-20 Public Party' on social media platforms like Instagram and X, which has garnered substantial support. The ethanol blend policy has been a contentious topic for a long time, primarily due to concerns over reduced mileage, potential engine damage, and allegations of conflicts of interest.
