Sanskrit as the Foundation of Indian Languages

On August 1, 2025, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the significance of Sanskrit as the root of all Indian languages, advocating for its integration as a medium of communication. He stressed the importance of making Sanskrit accessible to every household.

Inauguration Ceremony at Kalidasa Sanskrit University

During the inauguration of a new building at the Kavikulaguru Kalidasa Sanskrit University in Nagpur, Bhagwat highlighted the difference between understanding Sanskrit and being able to converse in it. He mentioned that while the university would receive government support, public backing is equally essential.

Sanskrit: The Mother of All Indian Languages

Bhagwat stated that Sanskrit is the mother of all languages in India and urged people to incorporate it into their daily lives. He remarked, 'We must learn to speak it in our everyday conversations. I have learned it, but I cannot speak fluently. It is crucial to bring Sanskrit into every home and foster dialogue in it.'

The Need for Self-Reliance and Knowledge Development

He emphasized the consensus on the need to become 'self-reliant' and demonstrate 'self-strength,' which requires the development of our intellect and knowledge. Bhagwat noted that India's strength lies in its 'selfhood,' which is expressed through self-reliance. He explained, 'Selfhood is not a material concept but a personal one, manifested through our actions.'

Understanding the Nation Through Sanskrit

According to Bhagwat, knowing Sanskrit is akin to understanding the nation itself. He inaugurated the Innovative Bharati International Academic Building at the university, contrasting the Western notion of a 'global market' with India's vision of a 'global family,' characterized by the principle of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (the world is one family).

Critique of the Western Global Market Concept

He criticized the Western concept of a 'global market,' stating that it has now 'failed.' Bhagwat also discussed India's hosting of the G20 summit in 2023, which centered around the theme of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.' Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, in his speech, highlighted the rich heritage of Sanskrit and assured his government's full support for its development.
