A one-day event aimed at raising awareness about millets (coarse grains) took place at the Government Senior Secondary School, Bharmaur. The initiative sought to motivate both farmers and the public to embrace millet cultivation and consumption for enhanced health and economic advantages.
During the event, Jitender Vardhan, Agriculture Subject Matter Specialist from Bharmour, served as the chief guest and emphasized the significance of millets in contemporary agriculture and nutrition. He urged farmers to prioritize millet farming due to its rich nutrient profile, which is vital for maintaining good health.
Vardhan stressed the necessity of incorporating millets into daily diets, asserting that a balanced intake of nutritious foods can mitigate various health issues and promote overall wellness.
He also called on farmers to revive traditional millet varieties and raise awareness about their nutritional and economic benefits within the community.
According to Vardhan, increased support for millet farming could enhance farmers' income while ensuring that consumers have access to nutritious food. He noted that expanding millet cultivation would be advantageous for both the agricultural sector and public health.
The awareness program underscored the urgent need to adopt sustainable, nutrient-dense food crops and highlighted the role of millets in fostering healthier lifestyles and robust rural economies.
