Tribute to Pradip Baruah

Guwahati, January 14: Pradip Baruah, the esteemed editor and publisher of the renowned Assamese magazine 'Prantik', passed away on Wednesday evening due to age-related health issues, as confirmed by family members.

At the age of 88, he is survived by his wife and daughter.

Baruah had been unwell for a while and was receiving treatment at a hospital where he ultimately succumbed.

He was the youngest son of Radha Govind Baruah, the founder of The Assam Tribune newspaper group.

His elder brother, Prafulla Govinda Baruah, who served as the Managing Editor of Assam Tribune, passed away just a month earlier on December 14.

In 1981, Pradip Baruah co-founded 'Prantik' alongside the late Bhabnedra Nath Saikia, who served as its first editor.

'Prantik' has gained popularity for its rich content covering literature, current events, and social issues, establishing itself as a significant publication in Assamese media.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences over Baruah's passing, noting that the loss of such a distinguished writer and journalist creates a profound gap in Assamese journalism.

“As the Founder & Editor of Prantik, his substantial contributions to literature, journalism, and public life will be remembered as a lasting legacy,” the Chief Minister remarked in a post on X.

He also conveyed his sympathies to Baruah's family and friends during this difficult time.
