Strategic Leadership Appointment in Assam
New Delhi: In a significant strategic decision ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, the Congress party has appointed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the Chairperson of the Screening Committee for Assam. This move indicates a serious commitment to the northeastern state.
The announcement was made via an official press release from K.C. Venugopal, General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), which confirmed the formation of Screening Committees for five states preparing for elections.
Priyanka Gandhi's new role in leading the Assam committee highlights the party's aim to enhance its national leadership presence in a region characterized by intricate and competitive electoral dynamics.
Joining her on the committee are Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, Imran Masood, and Sirivella Prasad, who will assist in candidate selection and facilitate internal discussions as the elections approach.
In addition to Assam, Screening Committees have also been established for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and West Bengal.
Madhusudan Mistry will lead the committee in Kerala, with members including Syed Naseer Hussain, Neeraj Dangi, and Abhishek Dutt. The Tamil Nadu and Puducherry committee will be chaired by T.S. Singh Deo, alongside members Yashomati Thakur, G.C. Chandrashekhar, and Anil Kumar Yadav. In West Bengal, B.K. Hariprasad has been appointed as Chairperson, with Mohammad Jawed, Mamta Devi, and B.P. Singh as members.
The AICC has stated that General Secretaries/In-charges, PCC Presidents, CLP Leaders, and AICC Secretaries associated with the respective General Secretaries/In-charges will act as ex officio members of the Screening Committees in their states.
These appointments signify a crucial stage in the Congress party's preparations for the forthcoming elections, with senior leaders tasked with managing candidate selection and internal strategies in vital battlegrounds.
