Priyanka Gandhi's Reaction to Bordoloi's Departure

On Wednesday, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi expressed her disappointment regarding the resignation of senior Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi from Assam, hinting that he was dissatisfied with the ticket allocation for the upcoming assembly elections. She wished that Bordoloi had discussed his concerns with the party leadership before making such a decision, stating, 'It is truly unfortunate. I believe he was unhappy about the ticket distribution, and we would have liked the opportunity to discuss this with him.'

Bordoloi's Allegations Against Party Leadership

Bordoloi has accused the party leadership of sidelining him, leading to his decision to sever ties with the Congress party, which he has been associated with for life. Speaking to reporters, he remarked, 'Today, I have given up one of my most important principles, and I am not happy about it... However, I made this choice because everyone who reached out to me within the Congress, especially in Assam, has disrespected me on various issues. The Congress leadership has also shown no sympathy towards me... I feel very isolated as I have been connected to Congress my entire life.'

Speculations About Joining BJP

This resignation has sparked speculation that Bordoloi may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the near future. Sources close to the situation suggest that his departure could significantly alter the political landscape in the region, particularly in Upper Assam, where he has been a prominent Congress leader for decades. At 66, Bordoloi has been a key figure for Congress in Assam since the late 1990s, beginning his legislative career by winning the Margerita assembly seat in 1998 and serving four consecutive terms until 2016. During this time, he held several important ministerial positions in the Assam government from 2001 to 2015.

Bordoloi's Contributions to Congress

Known for his organizational skills and strong grassroots presence, Bordoloi played a crucial role in strengthening Congress's foothold in Upper Assam and mentoring young party leaders. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he successfully contested from the Nagaon constituency, further enhancing his political reputation and influence among voters in the region.
