Concerns Raised Over Police Response to Student Protests
On Monday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her concerns regarding the police's actions against students protesting the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. She emphasized, "These are our children," and criticized the central government for not addressing educational policy issues in Parliament.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament on the first day of the monsoon session, Priyanka Gandhi accused the government of being harsh towards students who are raising important educational concerns while the opposition is calling for discussions on these matters. She stated, "We are all demanding a discussion. There are numerous problems and significant issues within the education policy. Yet, you are unwilling to engage in dialogue; instead, you are using tear gas and beating the students. Why? They are our children."
This statement came amid a tumultuous monsoon session in Parliament, where disruptions occurred in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha due to allegations surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the alleged embezzlement of donations by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya. Opposition members, led by Congress, demanded discussions on both issues, resulting in repeated protests and the suspension of proceedings. Ultimately, the sessions were adjourned for the day and are set to resume at 11 AM on Tuesday. The monsoon session is scheduled to continue until August 13.
Meanwhile, protests in the capital regarding the alleged examination irregularities have intensified. Members of the 'Cockroach People's Party' (CJP) attempted to march towards Parliament, demanding accountability in the paper leak case. During the removal of protesters near Parliament Street, several Delhi police officers sustained injuries. A sub-inspector from the Delhi police reported, "We were standing by the barricade when they (the protesters) threw stones at us."
