Priyanka Gandhi Leads Protest Against Arrest of Nuns in Chhattisgarh

Protest Against Minority Oppression

On Wednesday, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with several other party MPs from Kerala, staged a protest in the Parliament complex against the arrest of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh. They accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of perpetrating atrocities against minorities.

Priyanka Gandhi, along with Congress MP Hibi Eden, Revolutionary Socialist Party MP N.K. Premachandran, and other members, participated in the demonstration, chanting slogans such as 'Stop atrocities against Christians.' The MP from Wayanad expressed her concerns, stating, 'The treatment of some nuns from Kerala has been appalling. They have been falsely accused of crimes they did not commit, physically assaulted, and subsequently taken away by the Chhattisgarh police. We are opposing such attacks on minorities.'

On Sunday, a railway police officer in Durg reported that, following a complaint from a local Bajrang Dal leader, nuns Preeti Mary and Vandana Francis, along with a third individual named Sukman Mandavi, were arrested at the Durg railway station on July 25.

The Bajrang Dal officials had accused the nuns of forcibly converting three girls from Narayanpur and trafficking them.
