Prime Minister Modi's Upcoming Visit to Barak Valley: Key Developments and Infrastructure Plans
Preparations Intensify for PM Modi's Visit
Silchar, Feb 25: Efforts are ramping up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Barak Valley on March 14. A high-level meeting was convened at the Deputy Commissioner's conference hall to coordinate logistics, manage crowds, and regulate traffic effectively.
To alleviate congestion in Silchar town, officials have devised a decentralized movement plan. This plan will allow attendees from Sribhumi and Hailakandi districts to head directly to the event venue without passing through the town.
Additionally, specific traffic arrangements are being established to ensure that local residents can access the meeting site smoothly and without delays.
Cabinet Minister Kaushik Rai, who oversees the Barak Valley Development Department, announced that a public gathering will take place at the Ramnagar bypass, which spans over 200 bighas, with provisions made to accommodate nearly 200,000 attendees.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Panchgram–Silchar high-speed expressway, also known as the Silchar–Shillong bypass.
Rai noted that this project, with an estimated budget of Rs 22,000 crore, will significantly cut travel time between Barak Valley and Guwahati to about 4.5 hours, unlocking new economic and logistical prospects for southern Assam.
In a significant boost to urban infrastructure, the Prime Minister will also initiate the long-awaited Silchar Flyover project, which is valued at Rs 564 crore and aims to alleviate traffic congestion while modernizing the town's road network.
Chief Secretary Ravi Kota confirmed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will join the Prime Minister at the Silchar event.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister is set to lay the foundation stone for the first Agriculture College in Barak Valley, which will be located in the Dohalia area of Patharkandi constituency in Sribhumi district.
Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Krishnendu Paul stated that the Agriculture College will be established in the Dohalia area of Patharkandi. He, along with Minister Paul, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Assam DGP Harmeet Singh, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Aayush Garg, and Cachar SSP Partha Pratim Das, conducted an inspection of the venue to review administrative arrangements for the event.
