Auckland, July 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in New Zealand, marking the conclusion of his three-nation tour. This visit is significant as it is the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years.

Upon his arrival, New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon greeted Modi personally at Auckland Airport, where they shared a warm embrace before Modi began his official engagements.

Modi characterized the visit as "historic" and expressed eagerness to engage in extensive discussions with Luxon aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.

In a social media post, Modi stated, "I have just reached Auckland. I am grateful to Prime Minister Luxon for the warm welcome. This visit is historic, being the first Prime Ministerial visit to New Zealand in four decades. I look forward to discussing the full range of India-New Zealand friendship with Prime Minister Luxon."

During his two-day stay, Modi and Luxon are set to evaluate various aspects of their bilateral relationship, focusing on trade, commerce, defence, education, culture, sports, and exchanges between their peoples.

The Prime Minister will also meet with prominent business and sports figures and address a large gathering of the Indian community in Auckland.

Before departing from New Delhi, Modi mentioned that this visit would significantly enhance the momentum in India-New Zealand relations, which was initiated by Luxon's visit to India in March 2025.

This visit to New Zealand follows Modi's three-day trip to Australia, where he engaged in summit discussions with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

During their talks, both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to a free, open, and peaceful Indo-Pacific and agreed to enhance cooperation in defence and maritime security.

A notable outcome of the Australian visit was the signing of a civil nuclear energy agreement, which will enable the commercial supply of Australian uranium for India's nuclear power initiatives.

Prior to Australia, Modi visited Indonesia, where 14 agreements were established covering critical minerals, maritime security, and other strategic areas.

Modi has indicated that his trips to Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand will further bolster India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and its commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
