Prime Minister's Upcoming Visit to West Bengal
On June 20 and 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to West Bengal, where he will participate in the 'West Bengal Day' celebrations and lead the 12th International Yoga Day event. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the West Bengal Day ceremony in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, at approximately 3:45 PM on June 20. This location is historically significant as it is associated with Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The theme for the state's event is "West Bengal: Heritage, Harmony, and Development," reflecting the state's cultural richness, social unity, and developmental goals.
Development Projects and Financial Assistance
During his visit, Modi will inaugurate several development projects, dedicate them to the nation, and lay the foundation for new initiatives. He will also release the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which will transfer over ₹18,880 crores directly to more than 9.44 crore farmers across the country. In West Bengal alone, over ₹900 crores will be deposited into the accounts of more than 45 lakh beneficiaries, bringing the total amount distributed in the state to over ₹15,000 crores. Since 2019, the total amount disbursed under this scheme nationwide has exceeded ₹4.46 lakh crores.
Launch of Key Agricultural Schemes
Modi will also initiate several significant central agricultural schemes in the state, including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the Agri Stack under the Digital Agriculture Mission, the National Mission on Natural Farming, and the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhan Yojana (PMDDKY). The PMFBY aims to provide crop insurance coverage to around 50 lakh farmers cultivating approximately 14 lakh hectares of land, with an insured crop value of about ₹28,140 crores, supported by substantial premium subsidies.
International Yoga Day Celebrations
On June 21, in Kolkata, Prime Minister Modi will lead the national program for the 12th International Yoga Day at Red Road. He will address the attendees and participate in a 'Common Yoga Protocol' session alongside thousands of yoga practitioners. The theme for 2026 is "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," emphasizing the role of yoga in physical health, mental well-being, emotional resilience, and active ageing, aligning with the focus on increasing life expectancy and ageing with dignity.
Global Impact of Yoga Day
Since the United Nations General Assembly adopted India's proposal to celebrate June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2015, the Prime Minister has led numerous events both domestically and internationally. In 2026, Yoga Day celebrations are set to take place at approximately 2,500 locations worldwide, including over 210 Indian missions and posts, highlighting yoga as a global movement for health and harmony.
