Prime Minister's Meeting with Assam MPs

New Delhi, July 28: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a meeting with Members of Parliament from Assam, including Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita, to assess the ongoing flood crisis in the state.

In a social media update, Modi shared insights from the meeting, emphasizing the government's collaborative efforts with the Assam administration to support those impacted by the floods.

"I met with Assam's MPs to discuss the current flood conditions in various regions of the state. The Centre is closely coordinating with the Assam Government to aid those affected. I wish for everyone's safety and health," the Prime Minister stated.

Sources indicate that the MPs provided Modi with updates on the situation in flood-affected districts, detailing the ongoing rescue and relief operations, as well as the challenges faced in rehabilitation and recovery.

The MPs also requested ongoing support from the Central government to bolster relief efforts and facilitate long-term recovery in the affected regions.

Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his direct involvement and regular updates regarding the disaster.

"Adarniya Pradhan Mantri ji, thank you for your personal attention to this matter and taking on-ground updates regarding the #AssamFloods. Under your leadership, we are working on a war footing basis to provide relief to our people and so far we have been able to reach every affected village," Sarma remarked on social media.

In his update on the government's flood-relief initiatives, the Chief Minister noted that power supply had been restored in most affected areas and that all rescued individuals were being housed in relief camps equipped with food, medical care, and designated spaces for children.

"We will continue to work around the clock to ensure a swift response during this crisis and subsequently present a comprehensive rehabilitation plan to support our people, grounded in the principles of Jan Bhagidari," he added.

This meeting follows the Prime Minister's review of the flood situation over two consecutive days.

On July 25, Modi contacted Chief Minister Sarma to assess the situation, and on July 26, he held another review with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, reaffirming that the Centre had prioritized the severe floods in Upper Assam and would provide all necessary support for relief, rehabilitation, and rebuilding efforts.

While the flood situation showed signs of improvement on Tuesday, the disaster's impact remains substantial.

No new flood-related fatalities have been reported in the last 24 hours, keeping the death toll at 68, while over 450,000 individuals continue to be affected statewide.

Various Central agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are actively involved in rescue operations, evacuating stranded residents, and distributing relief supplies, as the focus gradually shifts towards rehabilitation and recovery in the most severely impacted districts.
