Prime Minister Modi Launches Nationwide Campaign Against Substance Abuse

Launch of the Campaign

New Delhi, Aug 2: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the "Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan," a comprehensive 100-week initiative aimed at engaging youth in the fight against substance abuse.

A Call to Action

The campaign, which was launched through video conferencing, signifies the start of a nationwide movement for public participation, spearheaded by MY Bharat youth volunteers.

During his address, Modi referred to the youth as the "Amrit peedhi" and encouraged them to avoid drugs to help realize the vision of a developed India, expressing confidence in their commitment to fostering a drug-free society.

Focus on Health and Awareness

He emphasized that this initiative is crucial not only for individuals and families but also for the nation. As India progresses towards the goal of Viksit Bharat, it is essential for the youth to maintain both mental and physical health, free from drug-related issues.

Every Sunday, awareness activities will be conducted nationwide to promote public involvement in the government's vision of a "Nasha-Mukt Bharat" and the broader objective of achieving Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Empowering the Youth

Modi acknowledged the diverse participation of young individuals, reinforcing his belief in their awareness and social responsibility.

He urged the younger generation to take charge of their futures, stating, "In the next 20-25 years, you will shape your lives and guide India towards the resolution of Viksit Bharat by 2047, benefiting from that success. The nation needs your energy, creativity, and talent. Therefore, stay away from drugs for both your future and the country's well-being."

Addressing Substance Abuse

Modi warned about the severe consequences of drug addiction, highlighting that it not only harms individuals and families but also undermines national strength.

He stated, "When a young person succumbs to addiction, it is not just their loss; it represents a lost dream. Additionally, it weakens our national strength, as adversarial nations aim to ensnare our youth in addiction as part of their terror agenda."

Seeking Help and Support

The Prime Minister encouraged families to seek professional assistance rather than concealing addiction issues due to societal stigma. He appealed to parents, educators, and college professors to be vigilant about behavioral changes in youth that may indicate substance abuse.

"Do not let social reputation prevent you from seeking help. Those in need should reach out for support. Engage in open conversations, consult experts, and work towards freeing your child from addiction with the help of medical professionals," Modi advised.

The Kashi Declaration

Modi also mentioned the Kashi Declaration, a five-year plan for a drug-free India established during the Youth Spiritual Summit in Varanasi in July 2025, noting that 125 spiritual organizations have united to back this national campaign against drug abuse.

The 100-week initiative will include various activities such as sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programs, awareness campaigns, street plays, discussion forums, art competitions, and community engagement every Sunday across the nation.
