Prime Minister Modi Launches Major Development Projects in Assam Ahead of Elections
Modi's Two-Day Visit to Assam
Guwahati/Kokrajhar: As Assam gears up for the upcoming assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is commencing a two-day visit to the state today. This marks his fourth trip to Assam in the last four months, a visit deemed crucial for the BJP's election campaign and development agenda. During this visit, PM Modi will unveil a staggering ₹47,600 crore worth of development projects for the state.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Kokrajhar this afternoon, where he will initiate projects exceeding ₹4,570 crore. Following this, he will head to Guwahati to launch development initiatives worth ₹19,680 crore. Modi expressed on social media, "I will be in Assam and West Bengal for the next two days to participate in events in Kokrajhar, Guwahati, Silchar, and Kolkata. These events will provide a great opportunity to engage with the people of both states and inaugurate various development works."
Preparations for the Visit
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that all preparations for the Prime Minister's visit have been finalized. In a social media update, he stated, "The people of Assam are eagerly awaiting Narendra Modi's arrival today. We have completed the final preparations. Over the next 48 hours, projects worth more than ₹47,600 crore will be dedicated to the public."
In Kokrajhar, Modi will perform the 'Bhoomi Pujan' for Assam Mala 3.0, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing road infrastructure. This plan includes the construction of over 900 kilometers of roads, which will improve inter-state connectivity and strengthen the links between national highways and rural roads. Additionally, he will also lay the foundation for four flyovers and two bridges in the Bodoland Territorial Region, with an investment of approximately ₹1,100 crore.
Evening Stay and Future Plans
Modi will spend the night at the state guest house in Guwahati and will depart for Silchar on Saturday, where he will inaugurate development projects worth around ₹23,550 crore. The assembly elections in Assam are expected to take place in April, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aiming for a third consecutive term in power.
