Celebrating Magh Bihu

New Delhi, Jan 14: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt greetings to the people of Assam in celebration of Magh Bihu, highlighting it as a time of joy, warmth, and brotherhood that reflects the richness of Assamese culture.

In a letter written in both Assamese and English, Modi emphasized that the true spirit of Magh Bihu is rooted in gratitude and contentment.

"I extend my warmest wishes to you and your family on this joyous occasion of Magh Bihu. This wonderful festival truly embodies the essence of Assamese culture, representing joy, warmth, and brotherhood," he stated in his letter.

The Prime Minister noted that Magh Bihu signifies the end of the harvest season, providing an opportunity to recognize the contributions of those who enhance people's lives, especially the diligent farmers.

"This festival also promotes generosity and compassion among us. May this Magh Bihu usher in peace, good health, and happiness for all. I hope the coming year is filled with prosperity and success," Modi expressed.

The Prime Minister is set to visit Assam on January 17, with a busy schedule that includes cultural events, infrastructure development, and connectivity enhancements.

Modi is anticipated to arrive in Guwahati on the evening of January 17 and will witness a grand Bagurumba dance performance at Sarusajai Stadium, featuring between 8,000 to 10,000 performers.

Following an overnight stay at State Guest House No. 1, he will head to Kaliabor in Nagaon district the next day to speak at a public rally at Mouchanda field.

A significant aspect of his visit will be the foundation-laying ceremony for a 34.5-km elevated corridor from Kaliabor to Bokakhat, which will traverse Kaziranga National Park.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate two new train services from Kaliabor—one linking Dibrugarh and Gomti, and another connecting Guwahati and Rohtak.

According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, "In total, Assam will receive three new train services within two days," he mentioned during a press briefing after a Cabinet meeting in Guwahati on January 9.
