Prime Minister Modi Embarks on Seychelles Visit for National Day Celebrations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant three-day visit to Seychelles, where he will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Day. This trip aims to strengthen the longstanding friendship between India and Seychelles through bilateral discussions with President Patrick Herminie. Modi's visit marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, emphasizing mutual trust and shared democratic values. He will also address the Seychelles National Assembly, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so, and engage with the Indian community in Seychelles, which plays a vital role in maintaining the cultural ties between the two countries. This visit promises to enhance cooperation in the Indian Ocean region.
 

Prime Minister Modi's Official Visit to Seychelles

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for a three-day trip to Seychelles. During this visit, he will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations of the country's National Day and engage in bilateral discussions with President Patrick Herminie to strengthen their friendship.


In a statement before his departure, the Prime Minister emphasized that Seychelles is a significant maritime neighbor and a key partner in India's shared commitment to the 'Vision Ocean' and the Global South.


Modi expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming talks aimed at further solidifying the long-standing friendship between the two nations. He stated that they would work together for the progress of their people and promote security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.


The Prime Minister is visiting Seychelles at the invitation of President Herminie from June 27 to 29. He will be the 'Guest of Honor' at the national day celebrations marking the golden jubilee.


In a post on 'X', he mentioned, 'I am heading to Seychelles, where I will participate in their National Day celebrations. This year is particularly special as it marks the golden jubilee.' Modi also noted that this year commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles, founded on mutual trust, shared democratic values, respect for diversity, and deep connections between their peoples.


Following President Herminie's successful state visit to India in February 2026, Modi eagerly anticipates discussions aimed at further strengthening their deep friendship. Together, they will work for the advancement of their citizens and enhance security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.


During this visit, PM Modi will have the honor of being the first Indian Prime Minister to address the Seychelles National Assembly. He remarked that this historic opportunity reflects the strong democratic values and parliamentary traditions that bind the two nations.


Modi also expressed his eagerness to engage with the vibrant Indian community residing in Seychelles, which has maintained a special friendship between India and Seychelles for generations, serving as a living bridge between the two countries.
