On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for a three-day official visit to Seychelles. During this trip, he will serve as the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of Seychelles' National Day and engage in bilateral discussions with President Dr. Patrick Herminie, aiming to strengthen the ties between the two nations. Prior to his departure, the Prime Minister emphasized that Seychelles is a significant maritime neighbor for India and a crucial partner in advancing the interests of the 'Vision MAHASAGAR' and the 'Global South'. He expressed confidence that the upcoming talks would further solidify the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
Participation of Indian Armed Forces
According to officials, a contingent from the Indian Armed Forces and two naval ships will participate in the National Day celebrations in Seychelles. Prime Minister Modi had previously visited Seychelles in 2015. The historical, cultural, and strong people-to-people connections have fostered a close relationship between India and Seychelles over the years. Officials noted that due to its strategic significance in the Indian Ocean region, Seychelles is a key ally in India's 'Vision MAHASAGAR', which focuses on regional security and development, as well as India's commitment to the Global South.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
In his statement, the Prime Minister mentioned that both nations will work together to ensure the progress of their citizens while promoting security, stability, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region. He highlighted that he is visiting Seychelles at the invitation of President Dr. Patrick Herminie from June 27 to 29, where he will be the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of the National Day.
Significance of the Visit
Prime Minister Modi expressed his enthusiasm for the trip on the social media platform X, noting that he is looking forward to participating in the National Day celebrations, which are particularly special this year due to the golden jubilee. He also pointed out that this year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.
