This initiative embodies our commitment to ensuring that every citizen can access quality medicines at reasonable prices. Through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, numerous families are reducing their healthcare costs and receiving necessary treatments,” stated PM Modi.
Additionally, the Prime Minister shared a post from 'MyGovIndia' that showcased the achievements and influence of the Jan Aushadhi initiative over the years.
The post emphasized that quality medications should be affordable and accessible, particularly for individuals battling chronic illnesses. “A long-term illness should never impose a financial burden on a family. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana is revolutionizing healthcare by making quality medications for chronic conditions both affordable and accessible,” the post noted.
It further highlighted the initiative's goal of creating a future where healthcare and dignity are guaranteed rights for all citizens, not just privileges.
According to the data shared, Jan Aushadhi Kendras provide quality medicines at prices that are 50 to 80 percent lower than branded alternatives, significantly alleviating healthcare costs for families across India.
The initiative has enabled citizens to save over Rs 40,000 crore by purchasing medications from Jan Aushadhi Kendras, with approximately 15 lakh customers visiting these centers daily, making them a favored healthcare choice for millions.
The network of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has seen remarkable growth, expanding 224 times in the past 12 years, from just 80 centers in 2014 to nearly 18,000 in 2026, thereby enhancing access to affordable medications across the country.
Sales at these centers have surged nearly 270 times, rising from Rs 7.29 crore in 2014–15 to over Rs 2,000 crore by February 2025, reflecting the increasing public confidence in the initiative.
Currently, the centers offer a diverse range of healthcare products, including over 2,110 medicines and 315 surgical items across 29 therapeutic categories, making them a comprehensive source for essential medical supplies.
The initiative has also played a crucial role in promoting menstrual hygiene awareness and accessibility. More than 100 crore sanitary pads have been sold through Jan Aushadhi Kendras, where they are available for just Rs 1 each.
Women entrepreneurs have significantly contributed to the expansion of this scheme, with nearly 60 percent of the new Jan Aushadhi stores opened in the last three financial years being operated by women.
