Varanasi/New Delhi, Sep 3: As the flood situation in Varanasi deteriorates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to Mayor Ashok Tiwari and District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar to assess the current conditions and the ongoing response to the rising water levels.
During their discussion, the Prime Minister received updates on the relief and rescue operations being executed by local authorities to manage the flooding. He instructed officials to ensure that residents do not encounter any difficulties due to the increasing water levels and the disruptions occurring in various parts of the city.
As the Lok Sabha MP representing Varanasi, PM Modi has been in close communication with local officials regarding the city's developments.
He also evaluated the amenities being offered in relief camps and emphasized the need for immediate provision of essential services to those affected by the floods.
Instructions were given to prepare for additional relief supplies if necessary.
Officials were directed to expedite relief efforts while continuously monitoring the flood situation and the ongoing operations.
Earlier on Wednesday, the water level of the River Ganga surpassed the warning threshold. Consequently, the district administration halted all boat services and intensified surveillance of the flood-affected regions.
Data from the Central Water Commission indicated that the Ganga's water level in Varanasi reached 70.29 meters, exceeding the warning level of 70.26 meters.
The increase in the river's water level has raised alarms in low-lying areas and regions adjacent to the ghats.
The danger level for the Ganga in Varanasi is set at 71.26 meters, while the highest recorded flood level stands at 73.90 meters.
In light of the current flood conditions, the administration has suspended all boat operations on the Ganga River as a precaution. Officials have urged devotees, residents, and visitors to steer clear of the ghats and avoid entering areas with strong currents.
