President Murmu to Attend IIT Dhanbad's 45th Convocation Ceremony

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to attend the 45th convocation ceremony at IIT Dhanbad, where she will present the President's Gold Medal to the top-performing student. The event will see nearly 1,880 graduates receiving their degrees, along with various awards for academic excellence. Notable dignitaries, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, are expected to be present. Established in 1926, IIT Dhanbad has been pivotal in training professionals for India's mining industry. This ceremony marks a significant milestone in the academic journey of many students.
 

President Murmu's Upcoming Engagement in Dhanbad

On Friday, President Droupadi Murmu is set to participate in the 45th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Dhanbad, which is also known as the Indian School of Mines (ISM). Earlier, on Thursday, she attended the inaugural convocation at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Deoghar.


During the ceremony in Dhanbad, President Murmu will award the prestigious President's Gold Medal to Priyanshu Sharma, who achieved the highest rank in the Bachelor of Technology program in Computer Science and Engineering. A total of 1,880 students from the 2024-25 batch will receive degrees across various disciplines.


The event will also see 37 students honored with gold medals, 35 with silver medals, and 21 with encouragement awards. Notable attendees are expected to include Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Governor Santosh Gangwar, and Chief Minister Hemant Soren.


Established on December 9, 1926, the institution was modeled after the Royal School of Mines in London, aiming to produce skilled professionals for India's rapidly growing mining sector.
