Significance of AYUSH Systems

Buldhana, Feb 25: President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the vital role of AYUSH systems in enhancing public health during her address at the National Arogya Fair in Shegaon, Buldhana district.

She remarked, “Practices such as Yoga, Ayurveda, and Siddha have been beneficial to people long before the advent of modern medicine.”

The President highlighted that a healthy population is essential for the nation's strength.

She pointed out that our agricultural lands, kitchens, and forests are rich in medicinal plants and herbs that are crucial for health. Preserving and utilizing these resources is essential for both medicine production and environmental sustainability.

“Growing medicinal plants not only boosts farmers' economic status but also aids in soil preservation and health. Thus, promoting AYUSH systems enhances both individual health and environmental conservation,” she stated.

The President noted that Ayurveda, yoga, and other AYUSH practices provide valuable insights into maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

“Globally, there is a growing acknowledgment of integrative medicine for disease prevention. Many are turning to yoga for a healthier, stress-free life and are reaping the benefits of Ayurvedic treatments,” she added.

She mentioned that initiatives like evidence-based research, standardization of medicines, and quality assurance will further elevate the status and acceptance of AYUSH systems.

The Ministry of AYUSH is actively working towards these goals, she noted.

“Guidelines for research and drug development have been set in line with international standards. Various scientific initiatives are in progress to validate Ayurveda, Yoga, and other AYUSH practices as credible solutions to contemporary health issues,” she explained.

The President expressed optimism that by integrating traditional medicine with modern scientific advancements and global partnerships, these systems can become a fundamental aspect of comprehensive healthcare.
