A Rising Star in Boxing
Indian boxer Preeti Pawar enters the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after an exceptional season, solidifying her status as one of India's top medal prospects. The 2024 Paris Olympian has had a remarkable year in 2026, clinching gold at the Asian Boxing Championships by defeating a three-time World Champion in the final. She also secured titles at the World Boxing Cup Finals and the EUBC Gold Grand Prix. At just 21 years old, this boxer, supported by the Inspire Institute of Sport, has positioned herself among the elite in the women's 54kg category.
Confidence and Experience
Having consistently faced and triumphed over some of the most prominent names in international boxing in the past year, Preeti is now gearing up for her first Commonwealth Games with a blend of confidence and experience. As India aims to uphold its illustrious boxing legacy at the Games, she is determined to convert her impressive form into a podium finish on this prestigious platform.
Emphasizing the Journey
In a pre-Games statement, Preeti expressed that representing India is her primary motivation, emphasizing the importance of trusting the process that has led to her success. "The Commonwealth Games provide another chance to represent India, which has always been my greatest motivation. This year has been remarkable as I have consistently performed against some of the world's best boxers, but each tournament presents a new challenge. I focus on maintaining discipline, trusting my preparation, and taking one bout at a time. If I execute my plan in the ring, the results will follow."
Support and Preparation
Preeti acknowledges that her supportive environment has been crucial in her preparation for this significant competition. She credits the Inspire Institute of Sport for enhancing her training. "My preparation has been excellent. Alongside the national camp, my time at the Inspire Institute of Sport has allowed me to improve in all aspects of boxing. We have focused on technique, strength, conditioning, recovery, and mental preparation. At this level, small improvements can make a significant difference, and the constant encouragement from coaches and support staff at IIS enables me to concentrate on becoming a better boxer. I feel well-prepared for the Commonwealth Games."
Growth Through Competition
The young athlete believes that competing against top-tier boxers over the past year has bolstered her confidence and highlighted the need for continuous evolution as an athlete. "Every competition offers valuable lessons. Regardless of winning or losing, I always return with new insights. Competing against the best has helped me recognize my strengths and identify areas for improvement. I enjoy this learning process because I believe there is always something new to discover as an athlete, which keeps me motivated every day."
Pride in Representing India
As she prepares to don the Indian jersey once more on a grand stage, Preeti reflects on the pride she feels in representing her country. "Wearing the Indian jersey is always a proud moment. Each time I compete, I know I am fighting for something greater than myself. Hearing the national anthem after a successful performance is an indescribable feeling, and I aspire to experience it again. I am thankful for the support from my family, coaches, teammates, and everyone who has believed in me. My aim is to give my all in every bout and make India proud."
Aiming for Glory
With an Asian Championship gold, a World Boxing Cup title, and victories over notable opponents already this season, Preeti arrives in Glasgow as one of India's top medal contenders. The Commonwealth Games offer her another chance to solidify her position among the world's elite and add another significant chapter to her burgeoning career.
