A Remarkable Athletic Journey
Praveen Kumar, currently ranked as the world's top para high jumper, has been honored for his significant contributions to sports, particularly in international para athletics. He initially secured a silver medal in the men's high jump T64 category at the Tokyo Paralympic Games in 2021, later achieving gold at the Paris Paralympic Games with a personal best jump of 2.08 meters. His impressive performance in Tokyo earned him the Arjuna Award in 2021, and his victory in Paris was recognized with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna in January 2025.
From Humble Beginnings to High Jump Stardom
Born in 2003, Praveen began his athletic journey playing volleyball in school before transitioning to high jump. Initially, his teacher hesitated to let him compete due to concerns about his leg condition. However, Praveen proved his capabilities by competing in the able-bodied category and clinching a gold medal.
