New Appointment at SAI

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has named Prashant Singh as the Regional Director for the SAI Regional Centre in Gandhinagar. He will oversee SAI's operations in both Gujarat and Rajasthan. Originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, Singh brings over a decade of experience in sports administration, having worked in various sectors of India's sports landscape, including policy formulation, athlete development, and event management.


A Rich Background in Sports

Singh has been a pivotal figure in the Khelo India Scheme since its launch, notably during the inaugural Khelo India School Games in 2018. He has participated in more than ten editions of the Khelo India Games and the 36th National Games, playing a crucial role in developing systems and standard operating procedures for national sporting events.


Expertise in Elite Sports

His extensive experience includes significant roles within the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and the Olympic Cell, where he helped identify Priority Olympic Disciplines aimed at maximizing medal potential at the Olympics. Singh has also served as a Sports Development Officer for various sports, contributing to the preparation of Indian teams for major events like the Commonwealth Games 2022 and the upcoming Paris Olympics.


Innovative Initiatives

In 2021, Singh was instrumental in launching the Central Athlete Injury Management System (CAIMS), which enhances injury prevention and rehabilitation for athletes. His efforts have also included strengthening the domestic competition framework through initiatives like the Khelo India Women's League.


Media and Public Engagement

From 2022, Singh led the Media Division of SAI, managing communications and marketing strategies. He played a key role in national campaigns such as #Cheer4India and the revival of the Fit India Movement, which includes the popular Sundays on Cycle initiative.
