Pranavi Urs Makes History with Gold at Asian Games 2026
Historic Achievements at the Asian Games
Kapil Dev, a former Indian cricketer and current president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), praised Pranavi Urs for her groundbreaking gold medal win and the women's team's silver medal at the ongoing Asian Games. He emphasized that these achievements highlight the players' talent, dedication, and hard work.
On Saturday, Pranavi Urs made history by becoming the first Indian woman to secure an individual gold medal in golf at the Asian Games. Additionally, she contributed to the women's team earning a silver medal. The 23-year-old golfer from Mysuru demonstrated remarkable composure during a closely contested final round, finishing with a score of 15-under 265, narrowly defeating China's Yin Ruoning and Singapore's Shannon Tan by just one stroke, as reported by ESPN.
This gold medal marks India's first in women's individual golf at the Asian Games and the first golf gold for the country since Shiv Kapur's victory in the men's individual event in 2002. Pranavi's stellar performance was crucial in the women's team event, where she teamed up with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar. The Indian team concluded the event with a total score of 14-under 546, with the best two scores from the three golfers contributing to the final tally. China clinched the gold with a score of 22-under 538, while Aditi shot a 67 in the final round and Diksha recorded a 77, securing silver for India.
