Following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Joshi to this additional position based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recommendation. He will now oversee the Ministry of Education alongside his current responsibilities in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
