Agartala, April 21: Following the announcement of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election results, allegations of violence have surfaced in various regions of Tripura. The ruling BJP has accused members of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) of instigating attacks against its supporters.
On Monday, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya reported that numerous party members faced assaults and property damage after the results were revealed on April 17.
Bhattacharya made these statements during a visit to BJP workers who have sought refuge at Saheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas in Agartala.
“We will not let any criminal go unpunished,” Bhattacharya emphasized, reaffirming the BJP's dedication to development rather than violence.
He mentioned that temporary accommodations have been set up at six different locations for those affected.
Bhattacharya also indicated that he had communicated with Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is anticipated to return from West Bengal to hold a high-level meeting aimed at assessing the law-and-order situation.
“He is aware of the situation and will take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of our workers,” he added.
In the meantime, new tensions have emerged in Janmejoy Nagar, Pekuajala, where BJP workers reportedly faced attacks.
Local MLA Ram Prasad Paul condemned the incident and called on the police to take decisive action.
Several BJP members from Gholaghati, Takarjala, and nearby areas have reportedly abandoned their homes due to fears of escalating violence.
Despite calls for peace from leaders across various parties, including TMP chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarma and the Chief Minister, sporadic incidents continue to raise alarms regarding law and order in the state.
On April 20, Tripura Police apprehended three individuals linked to the alleged assault on BJP MLA Abhishek Debroy during the TTTAADC elections held on April 12 in Gomati district.
The arrested individuals—Vivekananda Debbarma, Narayan Jamatia, and Mani Sadhan Jamatia—were identified as supporters of the Tipra Motha Party, according to an official statement.
