Investigation into the Deaths of Lion Cubs

A recent post-mortem examination of three lion cubs that died in Amreli district, Gujarat, has identified anemia and pneumonia as the causes of death, according to a senior official from the forest department.

On Wednesday, the state's forest minister, Mulubhai Bera, reported that two of the cubs passed away on July 28, while the third died on July 30. These cubs were rescued by forest officials about a week prior, after their mother abandoned them near Kagwadara village in the Jafrabad taluka.

Jaypal Singh, the Chief Conservator of Forests for the wildlife department, stated that as a precautionary measure, three lionesses and their six cubs, also rescued from the same area, are healthy and show no signs of any specific infections.

Singh confirmed, 'The post-mortem has established that the deaths of the three cubs were due to anemia and pneumonia. The nine rescued lions are also in good health and will be released back into the wild soon. One cub had a low hemoglobin level, but after receiving a blood transfusion, its hemoglobin levels returned to normal, and they are eating well.'
