BJP Leadership Encourages Humility and Service

Dilip Saikia  addressed a party function in Mangaldai on Sunday

MANGALDAI, June 8: Dilip Saikia, the president of the State BJP and MP for Darrang-Udalguri, called on the newly elected MLAs of his party to maintain humility and avoid arrogance. He emphasized the importance of reflecting on the party's history while celebrating their recent electoral success.

During his speech on Saturday, Saikia highlighted the remarkable growth in the party's vote share, which surged from a mere 2% in the 1985 Assembly elections to over 48% in the recent 2026 elections.

He noted that the party did not succumb to despair when it received only 2% of the votes in the past, nor should it become overly jubilant with the historic mandate achieved this time, boasting an impressive strike rate of over 91%.

Saikia remarked that with this significant victory comes an increased responsibility for the MLAs and party members to be accountable to the electorate.

He stated, “It is now essential for each MLA to prepare to repay their constituents with interest through dedicated service.” He also stressed the need for strong collaboration among the government, party, and various organizations to adopt a unified approach.

As the chief guest, Saikia spoke at a party event held at the district library auditorium, organized by the Darrang district BJP to honor Nilima Devi, the newly appointed Cabinet minister and MLA for Mangaldai, along with Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi, who has been re-elected to the State Assembly for a second consecutive term.

Nilima Devi, the first female minister from the Mangaldai LAC, shared her 31-year journey with the party and pledged to stay connected with party workers. Sipajhar MLA Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi emphasized the importance of collaborating with MP Saikia and Minister Devi to elevate Darrang from an aspirational region to a developing one.
