APCC meeting held on Sunday
Guwahati, Aug 16: The president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Gaurav Gogoi, convened a meeting on Sunday to assess the party's organizational efforts. During this gathering, a resolution was passed to initiate a statewide campaign targeting coal, stone, and sand syndicates, which the party holds responsible for the recent flooding in the region.
The discussions also focused on the party's readiness for the forthcoming Lok Sabha by-elections, autonomous council elections, and municipal polls, while evaluating the APCC's organizational framework.
As per an APCC announcement, the meeting addressed the need to assist those affected by floods by reconstructing damaged homes, cleaning public and religious sites, engaging in community service to help schools resume operations, and providing paddy seedlings along with direct support to farmers for transplantation.
“The party has resolved to launch a comprehensive awareness campaign against the coal, stone, and sand syndicates, which have been identified as significant contributors to the recent calamity in Upper Assam,” the statement noted.
Additionally, the meeting included resolutions opposing the proposed reduction of the eco-sensitive zone surrounding Kaziranga National Park from 10 km to 1 km, as well as the acquisition of indigenous land at Engleng Pathar for transfer to large corporations.
The Congress party committed to spearheading a mass movement to cultivate public sentiment against what it describes as “anti-people policies.”
Other topics discussed encompassed a proposal for zonal training for Pradesh Congress members, concerns regarding the appointment of RSS-affiliated individuals as Vice-Chancellors in Assam and other universities, and allegations of favoritism towards ideologically aligned candidates for college principal positions.
