Political Turmoil in Maharashtra: Six MPs Switch Allegiance to Shinde's Shiv Sena
Major Political Shift in Maharashtra
The political landscape in Maharashtra has experienced a significant upheaval as six current MPs from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) have defected to join the faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This unexpected move has sparked discussions about 'Operation Tiger' within the state's political circles. Just a day after this political bombshell, Shiv Sena leader and MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde issued a stern warning to the opposition, suggesting that more surprises are on the horizon.
This statement comes at a time when several legislators were notably absent from a crucial meeting called by Uddhav Thackeray, raising concerns about further fractures within his faction.
Shrikant Shinde's Bold Statements
In a press interaction, Shrikant Shinde took a jibe at the Uddhav faction, stating, "There will be continuous political shocks. For the past four years, we have been delivering political jolts. This is just a trailer; the main story is yet to unfold."
With a humorous tone, he added, "Was today not enough for you (the media)? Two major stories, both national headlines; how many more do you need in a single day? Save some for tomorrow and the day after. I believe you must be exhausted covering breaking news since morning. Now, take a little rest and stay calm. Tomorrow, we will start anew."
Operation Tiger Gains Momentum
The initiative to bring leaders from the Thackeray faction into the fold is being referred to as 'Operation Tiger' in political discussions. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has indicated its success, welcoming the newly joined MPs by stating, "Now, there are not just one, but six tigers here."
List of Six MPs Joining Shinde's Faction
The MPs who have switched allegiance to Shinde's faction include:
- Sanjay Haribhau Jadhav
- Bhausaheb Rajaram Wakchoure
- Omprakash Bhupal Singh Nimbalkar
- Sanjay Dina Patil
- Sanjay Uttamrao Deshmukh
- Nagesh Bapurao Patil Ashtikar
Sources reveal that these rebel MPs held several confidential meetings with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai before formally joining his camp. This move has significantly bolstered Shinde's faction in both the Parliament and Maharashtra, while pressure mounts on Uddhav Thackeray to maintain his party's base following the split.
Aditya Thackeray's Strong Rebuttal
In response to this significant breach within his party, Aditya Thackeray, a prominent leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), expressed sharp criticism. He accused the defecting MPs of betrayal and violating the trust of their voters.
Aditya Thackeray stated that these MPs won their seats thanks to the support of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance and the INDIA bloc, which included the hard work and campaigning efforts of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and NCP workers and leaders. According to him, this decision to switch sides for personal gain will tarnish the remaining credibility of these leaders and is a direct affront to the public mandate.
