Congress Celebrates Majority Amidst Internal Strife

In Karnataka, while the Congress party is reveling in its majority and preparing for D.K. Shivakumar's grand oath-taking ceremony on June 3, a disturbing narrative of loyalty and betrayal has emerged from within the party, alarming its leadership. Amid discussions about cabinet formation, a leaked audio clip has gone viral on social media, igniting significant unrest within the Congress ranks.

The audio allegedly features prominent leader and minister B. Zameer Ahmed Khan conspiring to undermine the Congress candidate in the upcoming by-election for the Davanagere South assembly seat.

Discontent Over Muslim Candidate Exclusion

Zameer Ahmed Khan is regarded as a close and loyal aide to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. However, reports suggest that he is deeply dissatisfied with the Congress's decision not to field any Muslim candidates for the Davanagere South by-election.

This by-election was necessitated by the passing of senior leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa. Disappointed with the ticket distribution, Khan is rumored to have decided to secretly support the candidate from the radical Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Afsar Kodlipete, contrary to the party's declared policies.

Congress Shocked by Allegations of Betrayal

According to sources, this controversy has shaken the Congress's state unit, leading to discussions about Khan's alleged betrayal. Notably, Khan has been advocating for a ministerial position in Shivakumar's government. However, neither the party nor Khan has issued an official statement regarding this incident.

Meanwhile, the audio clip continues to circulate widely on social media. However, the authenticity of this audio has not been independently verified by any media outlet.

Davanagere South By-Election Results

In the Davanagere South by-election, Mallikarjun secured victory with 69,478 votes, defeating the BJP candidate Srinivas T. Dasakariyappa, who garnered 63,799 votes. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), SDPI candidate Afsar Kodlipete finished third with 18,971 votes. As for Shivakumar, he is set to take the oath of office as Chief Minister on June 3, alongside nine other leaders. Sources indicate that the remaining ministers will be sworn in later on June 18, with a maximum of 34 ministers allowed in Karnataka, including the Chief Minister.
