Political Turmoil in Assam Over Allegations Against Gaurav Gogoi
Intensifying Political Controversy
Jorhat, Feb 8: The political scene in Assam has become increasingly charged due to allegations linking Gaurav Gogoi, president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), to Pakistan. This controversy escalated on Sunday when Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed strong disapproval following a press briefing by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Sonowal emphasized that anyone involved in activities deemed anti-national should face severe condemnation. He highlighted the gravity of the accusations and insisted that Gogoi must respond directly.
“Those who partake in conspiratorial or anti-national actions are always subject to condemnation. The serious allegations against Gaurav Gogoi are profoundly concerning,” Sonowal stated.
He further remarked that it is now Gogoi's duty to prove his innocence.
“Gaurav Gogoi needs to clarify his stance and demonstrate his innocence. The Union government is unequivocal in its stance that no entity acting against the nation will be tolerated,” Sonowal added.
These comments were made during a significant organizational meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Dibrugarh, aimed at strategizing for the upcoming elections.
The meeting saw participation from BJP state president Dilip Saikia, state in-charge Harish Dwivedi, Dibrugarh district president Dulal Bora, and several MLAs from the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.
As per party insiders, the meeting also served as a preparatory session for the anticipated visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the newly appointed national president of the BJP, Nitin Nabin, who are set to arrive in Dibrugarh on February 18 and 19.
