Political Reactions to the Viral Video

In Darbhanga, Bihar, a viral video related to the Bharatiya Janata Party's 'Voter Rights Journey' has sparked significant political controversy. Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), distanced himself from the offensive remarks allegedly made about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. Owaisi emphasized the importance of criticism in a democracy while warning against crossing the boundaries of decency.

Owaisi stated that while dissent, criticism, and condemnation are welcome, crossing the line of civility is unacceptable. He urged that discussions should remain respectful, particularly when addressing the Prime Minister. Referring to the viral video that included derogatory comments about Modi and his mother during an event in Darbhanga, Owaisi insisted on the necessity of using respectful language. He encouraged people to express their views and criticisms but cautioned against crossing the line of decency, regardless of the subject.

He reiterated that while it is important to critique the Prime Minister, one must remember that crossing the line is inappropriate. Such behavior would lead to discussions becoming inappropriate and vulgar. Owaisi remarked that there is no need to imitate others who engage in such conduct. In response to this controversy, Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused the Congress party of engaging in 'politics of hatred.' Speaking at a rally in Guwahati, Shah demanded that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi apologize to Prime Minister Modi and his late mother.

Shah referenced previous comments made by Congress leaders such as Sonia Gandhi, Mani Shankar Aiyar, Jairam Ramesh, and Renuka Chowdhury, claiming this is not the first instance of disrespect. He argued that derogatory names have been used against Modi since he became Chief Minister, questioning how one expects to win a mandate in such a manner. Meanwhile, BJP workers in Patna organized a protest march demanding an apology from Congress for the alleged offensive remarks. Led by senior leaders, the march towards the Congress state headquarters at Sadakat Ashram escalated into tensions, resulting in stone-pelting and clashes.
