Dilip Ghosh Critiques TMC Protests

On Wednesday, West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh expressed strong disapproval of the protests organized by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) against alleged attacks on party MPs Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee. He stated that the demonstrations lacked public support and reflected growing discontent among the populace. Ghosh remarked that neither the public nor members of his party were in favor of such protests, which is why no one joined them. He emphasized that the people have made their choice clear and have endured a lot.


Mamata Banerjee Leads Protest Against Violence

Mamata Banerjee led a demonstration on Rani Rashmoni Avenue, opposing targeted attacks on her party leaders related to post-election violence. Before commencing the protest, she paid homage at the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar in Kolkata. Senior party leaders, including Dola Sen and Kalyan Banerjee, accompanied her, and she was seen holding a copy of the Constitution of India.


Allegations of Attacks on TMC Leaders

The protests were sparked by allegations from TMC's national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, who claimed he was attacked with bricks, stones, and eggs during his visit to South 24 Parganas, resulting in an eye injury. Additionally, MP Kalyan Banerjee alleged that he narrowly escaped a life-threatening attack while submitting a delegation near Chanditala police station.

Following these incidents, political tensions have escalated in the state, with the TMC accusing its opponents of intimidating party leaders. On Monday, Mamata Banerjee condemned the alleged attacks, labeling them as absurd and tyrannical behavior. She expressed shock at the assault on a member of the second-largest opposition party, highlighting that doctors were called but hospitals reportedly received orders not to provide treatment. She questioned the nature of such absurd and tyrannical conduct.
