Political Confrontation in Himachal Pradesh

MANDI: As Himachal Pradesh grapples with severe rainfall and its aftermath, political tensions are intensifying. Former Chief Minister and prominent BJP figure Jai Ram Thakur criticized current Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during a press conference in Mandi on Thursday (July 3, 2025), labeling him as 'the biggest tragedy for Himachal Pradesh.'

Thakur accused Sukhu of being out of touch with the realities faced by the state during this crisis, claiming that his leadership has been ineffective.

He stated, 'Sukhu's approach is so limited that he has turned the entire state into a spectacle. The statements he makes and his behavior are evident for all to see.' Thakur further asserted that not only the Chief Minister but also his ministers have lost public trust due to their irresponsible actions and remarks.

Communication Breakdown Highlighted

Communication Failure at the Top, Says Jai Ram

Thakur pointed out a significant communication failure with the Chief Minister, revealing, 'I attempted to reach him six times this morning, but he did not respond. When I called the landline, his staff informed me that the line to the top is inactive — a first for me as a former Chief Minister.'

In a pointed remark, he added, 'Sukhu seems to be treating his position as a joyride, engaging in gimmicky politics instead of taking the situation seriously. A Chief Minister should act responsibly, not theatrically.'

Call for Action Over Gimmicks

Thakur mentioned that he had advised Sukhu just a day prior to focus on repairing damaged roads rather than distributing aid via helicopters. 'Delivering assistance from helipads is not a viable solution. We must ensure that relief reaches those in need on the ground,' he emphasized.

Ex-CM Shares His Ground Efforts

Thakur highlighted his own commitment, stating, 'I have spent the last two days on the ground, navigating rivers and damaged roads to reach those affected. I have risked my life to provide comfort to those in distress. I do not require guidance from someone who remains in their comfort zone.'

He concluded by urging the Chief Minister to stop making hollow political statements and instead focus on providing essential services such as water, food, and infrastructure to the affected areas. 'This is a time for decisive action, not for self-promotion.'
