Political Tensions Rise in Haryana Assembly Amid Walkout
Haryana Assembly's Winter Session Concludes with Controversy
On the final day of the Haryana Assembly's winter session, BJP MLA Shakti Rani Sharma introduced a privilege motion concerning Congress MLA Indu Raj Narwal. Although the motion was passed, it prompted a walkout by Congress party members from the assembly. Sharma stated that the motion was a response to questions raised about her family by a member on December 19.
Fifteen legislators from the ruling party supported the privilege motion, leading Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan to approve it.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda opposed the motion, while INLD MLA Arjun Chautala expressed his support. Former minister Vinod Sharma was present in the gallery during the proceedings.
In protest against the motion, the Congress party expressed its discontent and exited the assembly. The unanimously passed privilege motion will now be forwarded to the privilege committee.
Earlier, on Saturday, a no-confidence motion against the Haryana BJP government proposed by the Congress was rejected in the assembly. Citing deteriorating law and order, struggles for MSP (Minimum Support Price) for farmers, and poor road conditions, Congress legislators walked out in protest.
Political Fallout from the Walkout
The Congress party's walkout and the failure of the privilege motion sparked intense political debate between representatives of the ruling BJP and opposition parties. Haryana ministers Krishna Kumar Bedi and Arvind Sharma criticized the Congress's actions, labeling them as a "petty tactic" and accusing them of wasting time. Bedi remarked that such actions harm the state, while Sharma claimed that the Congress lacked seriousness and resorted to a walkout to save face.
