Political Tensions Rise in Bihar as Tejashwi Yadav Accuses BJP of Hijacking Nitish Kumar

Tejashwi Yadav has stirred the political pot in Bihar by accusing the BJP of hijacking Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. His remarks have reignited discussions about the BJP's influence over the JD(U) and the future of political alliances in the state. With a history of shifting loyalties, Kumar's political journey has been tumultuous, and Yadav's statements suggest that the upcoming elections could bring significant changes. As the political landscape evolves, the rivalry between the ruling party and the opposition intensifies, promising an intriguing future for Bihar's politics.

Political Dynamics in Bihar Under Scrutiny

The political landscape in Patna is once again in the spotlight due to recent statements made by Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly. He has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of 'hijacking' Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. During a press interaction in Patna, Yadav remarked that while Kumar has been 'dressed as a groom and placed on a horse, the vows are being taken by someone else.' This comment has sparked a fresh debate in the state's political arena.

Tejashwi Yadav's Claims Against BJP

Yadav reiterated his earlier assertion that the BJP is systematically working to undermine the Janata Dal (United). He pointed out that when Nitish Kumar left the Grand Alliance to join the NDA in 2024, he had predicted that the BJP would ultimately aim to eliminate the JD(U). Observing the current political developments, Yadav believes his predictions are proving to be accurate.

Control Over Chief Minister and Future Political Moves

According to Yadav, the BJP has completely taken control of the Chief Minister's political agenda. He also mentioned that Kumar has expressed a desire to join the Rajya Sabha. Yadav suggested that post-elections, the BJP leadership might make significant decisions regarding the Chief Minister's position, potentially leading to increased political activity in the state.

Nitish Kumar's Political Journey

Nitish Kumar's political career in Bihar has been marked by numerous ups and downs. He began his political journey with the Janata Dal and became an MLA for the first time in 1985. Later, he co-founded the Samata Party with George Fernandes and played an active role in national politics. He entered the Lok Sabha in 1996 and served as a Union Minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

Tenure as Chief Minister and Political Alliances

In 2005, the NDA secured a majority in the Bihar Assembly, leading to Kumar's first term as Chief Minister. He has since had a lengthy tenure in state politics, returning to power multiple times, including a significant victory for the NDA in the 2010 Assembly elections.

Shifting Alliances and Recent Developments

However, in 2013, he parted ways with the BJP to form a new alliance with the RJD and Congress. The political equations in Bihar have shifted several times since then. After winning the 2015 elections with the Grand Alliance, Kumar became Chief Minister again but returned to the NDA in 2017 after breaking ties with the RJD.

Recent Political Shifts

In August 2022, he once again left the NDA to join the Grand Alliance, but by January 2024, he rejoined the BJP-led coalition. Notably, in the 2025 Assembly elections, the NDA achieved a two-thirds majority, and Kumar took the oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time.

Future Implications for Bihar's Politics

Political analysts suggest that the ongoing shifts in alliances and statements could make Bihar's political scene even more intriguing in the future. Currently, Yadav's remarks have reignited a new round of political accusations between the ruling party and the opposition.
