New Delhi, Nov 2: The political debate regarding the INDIA bloc’s rally at Ramlila Maidan intensified on Monday, as Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the Congress party of utilizing an AI-generated image to exaggerate the turnout at the protest held on Sunday.
Rijiju took to social media to challenge the credibility of a photo shared by a Congress MP from Telangana, which seemed to depict a large crowd at the event.
“Even the fake AI photo to show that Ramlila ground was full is not done properly by the fake narrative team of Congress Party!” Rijiju remarked, posting the contested image alongside another photo.
Even the fake AI photo to show that Ramlila ground was full is not done properly by the fake narrative team of Congress Party! https://t.co/uBAf9NIPau

This accusation arose amidst a heated exchange between the BJP and Congress regarding the attendance at the INDIA bloc’s “Chalo Dilli” rally, which aimed to call for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Congress party had asserted that 1 million individuals would participate in the rally, while the BJP dismissed the event as a “flop show,” questioning the opposition's estimates.
On Sunday, BJP MP Sambit Patra conducted a press conference where he presented a video of the venue, claiming that approximately 40% of Ramlila Maidan was unoccupied.
“You can see in the background that 40 percent of the Ramlila Maidan was vacant. However, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders like Pawan Khera claimed that 10 lakh people would attend,” Patra stated.
He further claimed that out of the 28,000 chairs set up at the venue, around 5,000 to 7,000 remained unoccupied between 3:30 PM and 4 PM, arguing that this contradicted the Congress’s turnout claims.
In response, the Congress party countered the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assertions that the rally would negatively impact Delhi’s traders and lead to market closures.
Congress general secretary for communications, Jairam Ramesh, stated that the BJP’s narrative had been “punctured,” referencing a media report that indicated shops across Delhi remained open and business activities continued as usual.

In a Hindi social media post, Ramesh accused the BJP of fabricating a misleading narrative to undermine the rally and dissuade people from traveling to the capital.
“The BJP's entire propaganda has been punctured. To discredit the INDIA bloc's mega-rally and deter people from coming to Delhi, a narrative was spread - falsely claiming that businesses would suffer and markets would have to shut down,” he asserted.
Ramesh contended that visitors arriving from various parts of the country would also engage in shopping in Delhi, thus benefiting local businesses.
The ongoing dispute over the controversial photograph and the rally’s attendance has further fueled the rivalry between the BJP and Congress, with both parties contesting each other's claims regarding the scale and significance of the opposition gathering.
