Political Tensions Escalate in Patna: BJP and Congress Clash Over Abusive Remarks
Violence Erupts in Patna Amid Political Protests
Patna: Tensions escalated in Patna on Friday as BJP supporters protested outside the Congress state headquarters, Sadaqat Ashram. This unrest was triggered by derogatory comments directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deceased mother made by some Congress party members during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' event in Darbhanga.
According to law enforcement, a significant number of BJP activists gathered at the Ashram's entrance, chanting slogans against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and other opposition figures.
The situation quickly turned chaotic when Congress members retaliated, resulting in a violent confrontation between the two factions.
Both groups reportedly engaged in physical altercations, using sticks and throwing stones at one another.
In the fracas, several individuals from both parties were injured.
A city bus traveling along Ashok Rajpath, near the Congress headquarters, was also damaged during the unrest.
As the violence escalated, Congress workers closed the main gate of Sadaqat Ashram to mitigate further conflict.
Patna Police responded promptly, deploying a substantial security presence to restore order.
This incident has intensified the already fraught political climate in Bihar, with the BJP pressing the Congress and RJD leadership to apologize for the offensive remarks made against the Prime Minister and his late mother.
The controversy ignited after a video surfaced online, showing an unidentified individual using a Hindi slur against PM Modi during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' after seizing the microphone.
This incident occurred just as prominent opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, were expected to arrive, prompting attendees to rush the stage.
The individual responsible for the abusive remarks has been apprehended, and authorities are searching for additional suspects.
Police reports indicate that the man, identified as Rafiq, allegedly took the microphone at a rally in Bithauli and shouted derogatory comments aimed at the Prime Minister and his late mother.
The rally was organized by local Congress leader Mohammad Naushad, who is vying for the Jaale Assembly seat, as part of the ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'.
The viral video captured the chaotic scene, showing numerous workers shouting slogans and hurling insults, despite attempts by others to intervene. It also featured children and locals climbing onto the stage amidst the turmoil.
